Sunday’s Pride March was another step in my evolving relationship with Pride events. Marches are a political act rooted in historical struggle, and therefore are different to other community events. In my mind it means I had to be at a place where I don’t just accept myself but get to a point where I…

In Queensland, a conservative government paused puberty blockers and gender-affirming care for new patients, facing criticism for prioritizing ideology over evidence. An independent review acknowledged limited evidence on treatments but highlighted potential benefits for mental health. Despite the advice for improved access, the government extended the ban, impacting vulnerable youth.

Our nation is hurting after the tragic events at Bondi as we deal with the worst mass shooting we have seen since Port Arthur. The government is clear in it’s response with tighter gun laws on the way but the on going impact on our communities is far from clear. Meanwhile there are people trying…

The last couple of months in Australia have been filled with division and dangerous right – wing populism. There have been a few small wins but with anti immigration rhetoric reaching new heights and attacks on trans kids spreading to New Zealand and the NT it’s all a bit bleak to end the year.

A big few days in Australia. After a successful legal challenge against Queensland’s gender affirming care ban, the conservative government was quick to reinstate the ban. In contrast Victoria is making progress on Indigenous rights through a landmark treaty. The post discusses the persistent issue of bisexual erasure within the LGBTQIA community, highlighting the marginalization faced by bisexual and pansexual individuals due to binary thinking and societal stereotypes. It emphasizes the need for acceptance and validation of diverse identities, urging the community to focus on inclusivity and shared experiences to combat discrimination and rejection.

Hate is everywhere at the moment, and for trans people, it is sadly a fact of life. Even in supportive environments like Australia, it is part of our experience. It means that we regularly have to find the strength to keep going and rely on those around us for support.

We have come a long way since I was at school, but recent events surrounding the AFL highlight the need for progress. This is especially important because…

Acceptance is crucial for the LGBTQIA community, particularly during the vulnerable moments of coming out. Positive reactions provide vital support, while rejection, often from close relations, can lead to significant mental health issues. Continuous acceptance is necessary and should be reflected in daily interactions, promoting a sense of belonging and reducing feelings of isolation.

Despite the positive interactions within the LGBTQIA community, rejection from within can be deeply painful. It’s why gatekeeping can leave people completly crushed. We need to recognise the possible harm and continue to spread inclusivity and reject divisive views, particularly regarding the medicalization and identity of Trans individuals.

It’s Pride month so I wanted to reflect a little on the importance of Pride as a protest of societal shame and discrimination. Highlighting how the current Increasing anti-LGBTQIA rhetoric underscores means it is as relevant as ever especially as a force to empower others.

Australia’s federal election is set for this weekend amid a lackluster campaign. Polls suggest Labor may secure a second term, attributed to the LNP’s poor planning and backtracking on policies. Campaign focus areas include healthcare, education, cost of living, and housing, but personal attacks and disinformation mar the election landscape.
