The lonely husk: A poem of trans experience

Honest friends by my side,

        Kept ignorant of harsh realities.

alone terrorised by thoughts.

          Unwilling to share my questions.

building a cover to present

          Leaving a statue of control.

It seemed possible but strength wans

A constant effort, there is no way out.

To simply endure becomes a challenge.

            The terrifying possibilities

The mind feeds ferocious fear.

Echoes of the world laughing.

The image stripped from a remnant being.

 Authentic self but fragile whispers,

Failing to breach the ravenous dark.

All that’s left is the label, the shell.

A husk too afraid to let people in.

An endless reminder of what they see.
