Years ago I had the joy of teaching an amazing year 8 humanities class, as per usual I pushed them pretty hard but also had a lot of fun. A few students in particular loved my blunt and different take on things as we would often discuss a range of ideas related to varies topics. Funnily enough I had a couple of real fans that suggested I should start a YouTube channel or something, were I could just talk about stuff. I laughed off the suggestion at the time but realistically I was never going to broadcast my views about anything to the world. That was then.
Now I am a different person, much more confident and I have stopped caring so much about what other people think of me. More importantly I relish the opportunity to share my story and help others, it was one of the reasons I really started blogging. So it seemed like a natural extension to talk and be a bit more direct. A chance to put a bit more of a face to things and maybe engage with a bit more of a dialogue, although this is definitely not always going to be positive. This is how I have come to create Narrative Pride.
So what’s the channel about
This channel isn’t just about self promotion or gaining subscribers but like with this blog I want to continue to educate people. As a teacher especially, I know the written word isn’t the best way to reach everyone and lets face it some of my 5000 word posts are probably a bit much. However, by recording a few things I can not only give a bit more life to some of my experiences in a way that might engage and reach a different group but I can continue to advocate for my community. My aim is to try and bring the engaging, blunt and intelligent persona from the classroom to more public world. Therefore I hope to unpacking the issues effecting the trans and broader LGBTQIA community with a mixture of real world experience and reliable data. Ultimately, I’m still driving people to learn through stories but now in a different way and perhaps a clearer focus.
Be patient
At this early stage it is definitely still a work in progress and as such I continuing to develop my video editing skills and testing out a few different things. This includes getting some better equipment to improve the audio and really deciding on my preferred software. So this means I’m asking you all to bare with me especially with the early uploads. However, with support and few subscribers I know I am going to keep tinkering and really make Narrative Pride into something pretty special.
