Two Lanes – Poetic critic of modern life

Go to school;

better hurry;

bell’s ringing;

running late;

short periods;

timed essays.

Perusing literary masters in undisturbed quiet,

noon disappears as hungry eyes travel the page.

Work willfully discarded remains happily ignored,

as poetic verse carries one to distant realities.

Losing oneself in the pleasures of the mind.

Back at Uni;

big campus;

lecture first;

tute next;

moving fast;

arriving late.

Breathing in fresh summer sunset,

glazed eyes without focus frees the mind to wander;

the computers beckoning hum fails to intrude.

One’s imagination offers endless sanctuary,

finding self in solitary relief.

Stuck at work;

early start;

project goals;

stressing out;

livid boss;

late night.

Sinking into soft covers searching for warmth,

vain struggles of droopy eyes to stay alert.

With one’s entire life to live everything can wait.

Fading consciousness brings overwhelming serenity;

drifting into the calm oblivion of sleep.

Armchair - modern life
An inviting space – if only we gave ourselves the time to enjoy it.
